A great start to a new year

What a first week to 2023 we have had in Saplings class! We have had a number of new children who are settling well, everyone is now doing a full day and is getting the most from what our day offers. It has been lovely to hear about the things the children have been doing over the holidays and talking about all our hopes and dreams for this year.

Instead of a meet the teacher zoom meeting this term we are having a face to face meeting this coming Wednesday at 4:30 in the school hall. We look forward to seeing you all there.

This week we have been busy including a visit over to church to see the crib with all the visitors who came to see baby Jesus after his birth. We sang songs from our nativity as we thought about each person.

We have been refreshing our number memory by going on a number hunt looking for both the numerals and quantity. Some of us were able to look at ordering and finding a missing number.

To start our new term theme we have been exploring the arctic looking at the animals that live there and their habitats. We loved being penguins and learning how the daddy looks after the eggs before they hatch.

We have been talking about the different books we have. We found out lots of information about the daddy penguin from our fact books and read stories about all sorts of cold places and characters from our story books. We have had a lot of fun with the story ‘We’re going on a yeti hunt’. This has been a very energetic start to our PE for the new year.

What can I say about our first fire day of the year? Well, it wasn’t a cold frosty one like we have been exploring all week but we did have some warm hot chocolate and toast made on the fire. The children definitely made another twist with the story going from ‘we’re going on a bear hunt’ to the yeti hunt and for outside this week we’re going on a mud hunt!!!! They made bridges to go over it, used nets to get things from in the water, used sticks and fingers to mark make in it and yes used their bodies to go both in it and through it????

I am sure we will have some very tired children this weekend after such a busy week. Rest and we will look forward to another busy week going on safari next week.
