Year 5 have used this fantastic Michael Morpurgo book as a stimulus today, to write dilemmas for an adventure story. We were blown away by some of the children's stories. Read this extract from Annie's dilemma; The next thing I remembered I was lying down against Oona. I looked around and saw that there were tree with thousands of shades of green leaves. I could hear the sounds of the birds and other animals around me. I could smell the warm rain collect on the leaves. I got up reluctantly as lying on Oona was more comfortable than my bed at home. Oona, who was grey and smooth, opened her eyes ...........

The Amazon Rainforest
01 May 2019
Year 5's new topic is 'The Amazon'. In today's English lesson, we read and discussed stories that had originated from the Amazon. Some of the stories we read were 'The Tree of Life', 'The Legend of the Sun God' and 'Buried Eyes'. The Tree of Life is about a boy called Agouti. He and his family live off berries and leaves. One day he found the Tree of Life, but he didn't want to share it with everyone, so he kept it a secret. Each day he visited it and ate the fruit off the tree in abundance. His brother told others in the village that Agouti was putting on weight, so he got up early with his brother and asked him where he was getting all his food from. Agouti showed his brother the Tree of Life, but told him to keep it a secret. His brother took some fruit from the tree and took it to the village and the villagers wanted to know where he got the fruit from, so he betrayed his brother and showed them the Tree of Life. Everyone started climbing up the tree, one of the child came flooding out of the stump and flooded the rain forest. The villagers had to take refuse on higher ground. When the water had soaked into the ground, the villagers returned to the rain forest and lots of different trees had grown, each one bearing a different fruit. Kate C7

Sensational Story Starters
12 April 2019
Class 7 have been reading and writing sensational story starters this week. Take a read of Austin's - How did this blazing fire start? Ripping it's way through our peaceful village like lightning through the sky. Oh! Lightning did it, striking the old blossom tree, reverting it back to a sapling. It was set alight as soon as the single strand of electric hit it. The roaring, blazing fire, on the old blossom tree, attacking the world, was rapidly spreading, making it a danger. Burning like a bush, about to disintegrate, the snowy mountain soon caught fire too, heating up the forest like an oven heats up a roast dinner at Christmas. Soon, every single tree was on fire, resulting them being burnt out shells of their past lives. CRACK! It happened again! Another lost piece of the electric striking down, burning our damaged world. I had to escape, become a rogue and protect only myself. Every man for themselves ........
