The Amazon Rainforest
01 May 2019
Year 5's new topic is 'The Amazon'. In today's English lesson, we read and discussed stories that had originated from the Amazon. Some of the stories we read were 'The Tree of Life', 'The Legend of the Sun God' and 'Buried Eyes'. The Tree of Life is about a boy called Agouti. He and his family live off berries and leaves. One day he found the Tree of Life, but he didn't want to share it with everyone, so he kept it a secret. Each day he visited it and ate the fruit off the tree in abundance. His brother told others in the village that Agouti was putting on weight, so he got up early with his brother and asked him where he was getting all his food from. Agouti showed his brother the Tree of Life, but told him to keep it a secret. His brother took some fruit from the tree and took it to the village and the villagers wanted to know where he got the fruit from, so he betrayed his brother and showed them the Tree of Life. Everyone started climbing up the tree, one of the child came flooding out of the stump and flooded the rain forest. The villagers had to take refuse on higher ground. When the water had soaked into the ground, the villagers returned to the rain forest and lots of different trees had grown, each one bearing a different fruit. Kate C7
