Christ the King!

Yesterday we celebrated the great feast of Christ the King.

As we come to the end of the Church year when our gospel readings have mainly been taken from Luke, we hear the account of Jesus’ crucifixion.

A king crowned with thorns, ridiculed not cheered and crucified in the company of thieves. The two thieves were crucified on either side, one joining in with those challenging Jesus to show he is powerful and prove he is God and to save himself. The other recognises his own sinfulness, seeing Jesus for who he is and saying: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom”. Jesus’ replied that the thief would join him in paradise.

What an excellent mission for us all this week.
