Class 2

Dear parents,

We are very excited to welcome you all to Class 2. We have lots of fun and exciting things planned for this year.

Our topic for this half term is 'Penguins, Possums and Pigs. During this topic, we will be looking at hot and cold places and learning to name and locate the seven continents and five oceans.

In English we will be looking at different stories by the same author; we will be discussing main characters and events, making predictions about what might happen next and talking about our favourite parts of the story.

The author we will be looking at is Oliver Jeffers; if you have any of his stories at home please bring them in for us to share.

We will be looking at place value and also sorting, counting, ordering, writing and comparing numbers.

Any number work you can do with your child at home will help them; something as quick and simple as counting the stairs at home or recognising house numbers when out walking the dog will help your child to develop their understanding of the number system.

Celebration - Some ways the Church celebrates major seasons of the liturgical year.

Revelation - Come to know Jesus is God the Father’s son.

The Church - Discussing the relationships we have in the family, at school and our neighbours.

Life in Christ - Learning about God’s love and having respect for others.

This term we will be having our P.E lessons on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings; please ensure your child has a full P.E kit in school that has their name in.

Reading books will be changed every Monday and Friday; it is extremely important to read with your child at home. As well as their school reading books, we encourage children to read their own books from home and to visit the library.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children throughout this year.

Please feel free to see me after school if there is anything you wish to discuss.

 Thank you for your support,

 Mr Cummings
