Class 5

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am very excited to welcome you all to Class 5. My name is Miss Barton and I will be your child’s class teacher this year. I am very much looking forward to working with your child, supporting them with their learning and getting to know them as individuals. In addition to myself, your child will be supported by Mrs Dahiru and Mrs Noonan.

Each week your child will be set a piece of English, Maths or Topic homework. The children are encouraged to complete this independently however, if your child finds some of their homework particularly difficult please annotate on their homework and don’t hesitate to ask me for clarification.

In addition, your child will continue to receive a reading book once a week. Please encourage your child to read often and discuss the characters, settings and language choices displayed inside the book with your child.  Before returning the book to school, please sign and comment in their reading journals about their progression and any discussions you have shared with your child.

Every Friday your child will receive a list of spellings to learn for the following Friday. Later on in the autumn term your child will also receive times tables to learn. Practicing these times tables and spellings is crucial when supporting your child’s progression in English and Mathematics. Please encourage your child to revise their spellings and times tables daily.

Please note that P.E sessions for Class 5 will take place on a Monday afternoon. On that day the children should come into school in their P.E kit. They do not need to keep their P.E kit in school. To ensure the safety of your child please ensure that long hair is tied back and any jewellery is removed before coming into school. If your child requires an inhaler please send it into class labelled with your child’s name and the dosage required.

At break time your child will be given the opportunity to buy toast. Toast is 20p and the children are limited to a maximum of two slices each.

I am very much looking forward to meeting you all. If you have any questions for concerns please do not hesitate to come and speak to me after school.

Thank you for your support.

Miss Barton
