Class 8

Dear Parents,

My name is Mr Parkinson and I will be your child’s teacher in Year Six (Class 8) this year.  I am very much looking forward to the year ahead, helping your child develop both academically, spiritually and personally whilst celebrating their progress and achievements with you.

Each morning in our classroom Mrs Foster, Mrs Lee and Mrs Rossall will be assisting us in our learning. Mrs Doolan will be teaching the children on a Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.

Children will continue to all have a reading book and need to be encouraged to discuss and explore the book in detail, as well as reviewing their books on a regular basis. It is still so important to spend time listening to your child read as well as reading to them on a regular basis. This year the children will also receive a list of spellings to learn which they will be tested on, on a Friday. In addition to reading and spellings, the children will be given English, Mathematics and topic work to complete throughout the week. Homework and signed reading diaries must be handed in on a Thursday.   Please also note that school has a subscription to Purple Mash with each child having their own login.  This can be accessed from home and used to support their learning in school.

Children will need to wear their PE kit to school on a Monday this half term.  Please ensure that all PE kit and uniform is clearly labelled, to ensure that if it is lost, it can always find its way back to the right home! Any earrings will need to be removed or covered up for PE.  If your child has an inhaler, then please ensure that it is in school and if there are any other changes to your child’s medical or emotional needs then please let me know.  If you would like your child to walk home from school this year then please send a letter in to give your permission for this to happen.

Next year your children will take National Tests in reading and mathematics, as well as spelling, punctuation and grammar.  Tests will be administrated in the week commencing Monday 11th May 2020.    Writing will be teacher assessed and moderated within our school cluster.  However, I will continue to deliver a varied and interesting curriculum throughout the year, as I believe it is important to develop the whole child and that SATs are only a part of the bigger picture!

On our school website you will find our curriculum overview for the year.  I hope this information is useful to you in helping your child at home. If you have any further questions or would like to speak to me regarding your child, then please see me after school.

Many thanks,

Mr Parkinson
