We are delighted to be working with your children in Year 4. We are looking forward to getting to know them better; supporting and encouraging them as they face new, exciting challenges and celebrating their achievements with you.
Miss Harrison will be teaching the class on Mondays, Tuesdays and until 2pm on Wednesdays. Mrs. Brennan will be teaching the class for the last lesson on Wednesdays (Maths.) and on Thursdays and Fridays. We are fortunate to have a wonderful support assistant in Class 6; Mrs. Harper will be working in the class every day until 3pm.
The class have P.E. on Tuesday afternoons so please send your child into school wearing their P.E. kit on that day. It would be helpful if children with pierced ears could remove their earrings, for safety reasons, on Tuesdays.
Ideally, the children should read daily (sometimes independently and sometimes with an adult to enable discussion) for about 30 minutes. When possible, please ask your child questions which involve more of an explanation rather than just a one word answer eg Why….? How….? Can they give reasons for their opinions or find evidence in the text to support their view?
The children will also have weekly spellings and times tables to learn at home. Spellings will be tested on Wednesdays and times tables will be tested on Fridays. It really does benefit the children, in terms of speed and accuracy, if they learn the times tables by heart. Times tables underpin so many areas of Mathematics!
English homework will be given out on Mondays and must be handed in on Wednesdays. Maths homework will be given out on a Wednesday to be completed for Friday. Homework will often consolidate what the children have been learning in class.
We thank you in advance for your invaluable support at home and look forward to a happy, successful year with your children.
If you have any further questions or need any more information, please feel free to see us after school.
