PE

PE takes place in the Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2 both indoors and outdoors, when the weather allows. It is important for children to have their white tee-shirt, black shorts and black pumps clearly labelled with their name in school at all times. Jewellery must not be worn and earrings must be removed as per County policy.

Since 2013 the Government has provided additional funding to primary schools to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The Government’s PE and Sport premium funding has continued into the 2018-2019 academic year, and this year has almost doubled. The aim of this funding is to continue the sporting legacy from the London 2012 Olympic Games with schools being given the freedom to choose how to spend the money in order to improve PE and sports provision in their school. Whilst we pride ourselves on being a very active and healthy school already, we welcome this additional funding to further develop the excellent practice that currently goes on in school.

At St Clare’s we recognise the benefits of a strong Physical Education curriculum and extra-curricular activity on raising children’s aspirations and self-esteem. Following the additional PE and Sports funding provided by the government this year, we are pleased to share our funding action plan with you. At St. Clare’s, we have chosen to spend the money on ensuring that all children benefit regardless of sporting ability; that the most able children are given the opportunity to compete in advanced tournaments; and that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development in order to be able to deliver outstanding teaching in all areas of PE. We have taken the necessary steps to ensure that developments are sustainable and have planned to use the funding to further develop staff CPD and pupil participation at all levels.

Full details of the Grant can be accessed through the Department for Education website: https://www.education.gov.uk/schools/adminandfinance/financialmanagement/primary

An overview of how the money has/is being spent is outlined in the document ‘PE and Sport Premium Funding 2020/21’; this is a working document and will be updated throughout the school year.
