Year 6 – Investigating Alfred the Great!

Another week has flown by in Year 6! We started the week looking at the order of operations in maths and have moved onto balancing equations and expressing missing number problems algebraically. All of the children have approached this new learning with confidence and a ‘can do’ attitude. We have also put our pencils to paper this week across the curriculum. In our topic work we have been investigating why Alfred the Great was known as King Alfred (take a look at some examples below!) and in our English we have started writing our own non-friction hybrid texts. It has been wonderful to see the progress that the children are making especially when we looked back to their first piece of work in September!

A big congratulations needs to go to the swimming team this week who came 4th overall with many other placings in the range of different events. We also had an overall Gold medal in the breaststroke! Next week we have a team representing school in a girls football competition – good luck!

Well done for another busy week of learning Year 6! Have a good weekend with your families and we will see you for another busy week next week.
