Year 6 – Reverence for life is the glue of human community

This weeks blog needs to start off with how proud we are of all the children after their Advent Service on Wednesday evening. No matter how they contributed, they did so with a great maturity and reverence to remind us of the real meaning of this season of preparation. It was also great to be able to share it with you in Church and those who were watching from home.

We have continued our writing this week with a focus on Mary Poppins. It has been great to see how the children have used a range of sentence lengths, noun phrases and dialogue to develop their writing, whilst thinking about what clues they can use to show that their story is set in the past. We have also used the Mary Poppins film version in our music and dance lessons to focus on the work of the Sherman brothers, who wrote the musical score for the film.

In science we have been experimenting this week with light and shadows..we had some very creative ideas and some great scientific explanations. Well done!

Have a lovely weekend with your families and we shall see you bright and early on Monday morning.

Reminders

  • Next week 6 will be going swimming each afternoon. Please can all children wear a swimming hat and suitable swimwear. Girls will be required to wear a well fitted, one piece swimming costume, with secure shoulder straps. Boys need a pair of swimming trunks or fitted lycra shorts (no baggy beach style shorts are allowed). They will need their swimming kit, along with an appropriately sized towel and a small healthy snack, for after their lesson. If it is easier for the children they can wear their PE kits for the next two weeks and only uniform if the PE kit is in the wash! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to be in touch.
